Hi all, Tall Tom R here Empty In the event of an FB wobbly...

Post by eco Wed Oct 05, 2011 8:09 pm

Hi Tom,

Thanks for setting this up! :-)

I'm Eco, the person that set up the Occupy Norwich FB account, event page, Tumblr and Twitter.

I was wondering whether we should invite people to register on here (if they want to) now, because if FB does go down we may not be able to easily direct people to come here. instead, if we lose functionality, and people might think there's no way of contacting each other. What do you think?

So is the idea that we only use this place if there are "technical" problems elsewhere? But for the meanwhile we continue to discuss and organise on FB?

Hi Folks

Yes feral, the idea is for this to be a backup of rthe Facebook group as we are already a bit mixed up between the group, page and event, but I will be trying to backup all the useful links and coversations onto here as well. Its just not as well connected yet as Facebook is. I am working on that

Ok, cool Smile

And yep, def a good idea to back-up anything important. FB groups I've been a member of in the past can literally disappear overnight without a moment's notice.

Hi all, Tall Tom R here Empty Hey hey.

Post by Magic Mon Oct 10, 2011 9:08 am

Hey,

I'm Magic, and I've done a fair few things on the events page, the group page, etc etc.

I don't live in Norwich, I will be there for day one, and then I'll be there on the Monday and will try to stay overnight.

In the past, I helped occupy an area of a university for a month, and attended most of the student demonstrations in London, as well as the NCAFC conferences in London.

I'm pretty new in town, so I'm finding my feet here.

All the best,

Magic

One question: The mobile version of the forum seems to be read only atm. Any way of removing that restriction? The full forum is a little too unwieldy to use on my smartphone.

Perhaps we could use the Tapatalk plugin for phpBB? It's free and allows anyone using the Tapatalk app on their smartphone to view and post to the forum in a mobile friendly format.

Just to update... the original idea was to use this as a backup, but it has another use. FB is very poor for keeping track of an ongoing topic - posts get lost quickly - so we are encouraging people to post here for things we need to discuss, track, update and refer to.
